What are draw odds?

Most western states award limited big game licenses through an annual lottery, the draw. Draw odds are your chance of pulling a specific hunt code given your residency and preference points. Here they are computed from each state's official published draw results, not estimates.

Is this really free? What's the catch?

Free, no account, no catch. huntNotes makes a hunting journal app, and this tool is our contribution to hunters planning their applications.

How current is the data?

Each state shows a data-year badge. Odds come from the most recent completed draw, which is the best available predictor for the next one. Keep point creep in mind: high-demand hunts tend to require a bit more each year.

Which states and species are covered?

Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, and Utah are live, covering elk, deer, pronghorn, moose, bighorn sheep, and mountain goat (Wyoming and Utah add bison). Each state's system is different: Colorado uses preference points, Wyoming a 75/25 preference-and-random split, Montana and Nevada a bonus-point (squared) draw, Idaho a pure random lottery with no points, and Utah a bonus-point draw (half of each hunt's tags to the top point-holders, half random). New Mexico and Washington are next.
