1. Introduction

huntNotes (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is operated by AWM-Studios. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the huntNotes mobile application (the “App”), available on iOS and Android, and our website at huntnotes.app. Please read this policy carefully. By using the App, you consent to the practices described herein.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

• Account Information: Username and authentication credentials when you create an account. We do not collect your email address.
• Hunt Session Data: Session titles, start/end times, notes, tags, hunt style, species, weapon type, and animal observation counts (male/female/undetermined sightings and harvests).
• Waypoints: Location coordinates (latitude/longitude), elevation, accuracy, timestamps, names, notes, color, type (25+ types including TreeStand, TrailCamera, Scrape, Rub, FoodSource, Bedding, Harvest, and more), and associated tags.
• Sightings: Individual animal sightings with timestamps, sex classification (male/female/undetermined), count, and notes.
• Photos: Images you attach to waypoints or sessions, including EXIF location data, SHA-256 file hashes for deduplication, and thumbnails. Photos are stored locally and optionally synced.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Location Data: GPS coordinates collected when you create a waypoint or view weather and maps. We do not track your location in the background without your knowledge.
• Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for compatibility and crash reporting purposes.
• Usage Analytics: Anonymized usage patterns to improve the App experience. This data does not identify you personally.
• Crash Reports: Automatic crash and error reports via Sentry to help us identify and fix bugs. These may include device state information but do not include personal hunting data.

2.3 Weather Data

When you view weather information, we send your location coordinates to the National Weather Service (NWS) API (api.weather.gov) to retrieve current conditions, hourly forecasts, and 7-day forecasts. Retrieved data includes temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and trends, wind speed/direction, precipitation, cloud cover, UV index, sunrise/sunset times, and moon phase data. Weather data is cached locally on your device for up to 60 minutes.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide, maintain, and improve the App's features and functionality.
• To sync your data across devices when you are online.
• To display maps, weather data, and analytics based on your sessions.
• To process subscription payments and manage your account.
• To send important service-related communications (e.g., subscription renewal notices).
• To diagnose technical issues and improve app stability via crash reporting.
• To comply with legal obligations.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may collect or process data:

• Mapbox: Provides map rendering and offline map tiles. Mapbox may collect anonymized telemetry data. See Mapbox Privacy Policy.
• National Weather Service (NWS): Provides weather data via api.weather.gov. Location coordinates are sent to retrieve current conditions and forecasts. NWS is a U.S. government service; see NWS Privacy Policy.
• Sentry: Provides crash reporting and error tracking. See Sentry Privacy Policy.
• Apple App Store / Google Play Store: Processes in-app subscription payments. We do not store your payment card information. All payment processing is handled by Apple or Google respectively.

5. Data Storage and Security

huntNotes is a local-first application. All your notes, sessions, waypoints, sightings, photos, trail camera data, GPS tracks, and analytics are stored locally on your device. Notes and analytics work entirely offline with no internet connection required. Offline maps are available when you download map regions while connected. Photos are stored locally using platform-secure storage. We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption at rest and access controls.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time through the App settings. Upon account deletion, we will remove your personal data from our servers within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

7. Your Rights

7.1 All Users

• Access and export your personal data.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Delete your account and all associated data.
• Opt out of non-essential analytics collection.

7.2 European Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to object to processing. Our legal basis for processing your data is your consent (which you may withdraw at any time) and the performance of our contract with you.

7.3 California Users (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion of your data, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new policy in the App and updating the “Last updated” date. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
